SITES OF GDYNIA Gdynia is a very young city, complete with modernistic architectural buildings. Among these buildings there are some relics hidden from when Gdynia was a fishing village. Those few relics provide an opportunity to find out about the history of the city and how it looked before the marine port was opened. The marine building was started in 1921 and five years later Gdynia was granted city rights. This is a city which has developed with resilience and has a lot of tourist, entertainment and trade attractions.

Abraham's House is located at 30 Starowiejska Street. It was erected in 1904. The first owners of the house were the Skwiercz family. It became famous thanks to Antoni Abraham, who devoted all his life to the fight for Poland's freedom. His contributions included the restoration of the Polish nation, encouraging the fight for a free Poland and also writing patriotic articles. Moreover, he took part in the First World War.
On Starowiejska Street there is a house which was also built before the marine port was built. It was built in 1914 and was owned by the Schroeder family.

Sea Boulevard of Feliks Nowowiejski is 1.5 km long and it is a unique place of a direct contact between the city and the sea. It stretches from Skwer Kosciuszki to the beach in Gdynia Redlowo. A lot of tourists and citizens walk here every day. This is a place where lovers and friends meet. It is also a place loved by runners. Walking here you can find the Three Fishes sculpture. The boulevard is not only a promenade, but also protects the sea front from waves.

Stone Hill is 50 metres above sea level. This place is an enchanting panoramic point, allowing a beautiful view of the city, marine port and sea. You can also see the Hel Peninsula from here. At the top of the hill there is a cross 52.4 metres high. The central point on the hill is where the monument of Henryk Sienkiewicz (a famous writer and winner of the Nobel Prize) stands. The monument has stood there since 1924.

The Church of St Michael Archangel is located on Arciszewska's Street at Kępa Oksywska. This is the oldest building in Gdynia. The church was erected in the beginning of the XIII century. It was destroyed in the XVII century during the Swedish Wars. Reconstructed, it was again destroyed during the Second World War. It was rebuilt again and still serves people. It is surrounded by a cemetery and a few buildings from the XIX and XX centuries.

Villa Lubicz is a building erected by Capitan Wladyslaw Zaleski in the 1930s. It has been restored and almost carried back through time to those past years, to recreate the atmosphere of the 30s. It is located on Orlowska Street.

Gdynia Aquarium is situated at 1 Aleja Zjednoczenia, opposite the monument to J.Conrad. It was built in 1971. The aquarium is a place where you can see marine flora and fauna in the museum exhibitions and aquaria. It presents the extraordinary beauty of live marine plants and animals and of particular interest is the coral reef fauna.

Jan Radtke's House. J. Radtke was a first chief officer of a group of villages in Gdynia. He built this house in 1912 at 2 10 Lutego Street. He took great care of Gdynia's development, first as a city, then as a resort, and later as a marine port. J. Radtke was a spokesman for the marine and naval harbours.

 Skwer Kosciuszki and Aleja Zjednoczenia are the most popular places in Gdynia. The most popular promenade for tourists and citizens. You can admire beautiful yachts which come here from all over the world, such as during THE CUTTY SARK TALL SHIPS' RACES in 2003. Every day you can board the "Bounty of Pomerania" (Dar Pomorza) - the most popular ship among many cadets who acquired their sailing skills on board, and also the "Lightning" (Blyskawica) - a destroyer -both museums today. A lot of concerts, festivals and other celebrations are held on the Square, especially in the summer. At the end of Aleja Zjednoczenia there is a monument to Joseph Conrad - the great marine writer who was born in Poland.

The Polish Navy Museum is located on the Sea Boulevard close to the beach. You can admire monumental guns there, which were used from the XVII century up until the Second World War. Furthermore, there are aircraft and helicopters belonging to the Navy air arm.
