Kociewie Region

There are many beautiful places worth visiting in Kociewie. The Cistercian Cathedral in Pelplin is one of the most wonderful brick buildings in Europe. The Diocesan Museum displays many ecclesiastical works of art, amongst them the one and only example in Poland of the famous Gutenburg Bible.
The castle at Gniew offers many attractions. In summer, the Brotherhood of Knights organises tournaments here demonstrating battles of knights on horseback and on foot and contests making use of weapons from the Middle Ages. In the streets there is constant commotion, below the castle there are bonfires and in the castle courtyard there are feasts. It’s worth stopping in Wirty, where there is a beautiful arboretum. About 100 different types of coniferous and 150 deciduous species of shrub grow here. Wirty is currently one of the most interesting places of its kind in Poland. Kociewie is a wonderful place for tourists who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of big cities and relax off the beaten track.
